I Dr. R.Jancy Rachel Daisy HOD of Mental Health Nursing indeed privileged and delighted to be a part of C.S.I.Jeyaraj Annapackiam College of Nursing family. The College having green campus with all facilities which provide an appropriate environment for higher learning.
I joined in this institution in 2001as an Asst.Lecturer, In the past 19 years of my professional journey in C.S.I JACON, I have completed my Ph.D. promoted as HOD of Mental Health Nursing by the Grace of God and the support given by the management in my academic upliftment
The highly qualified and dedicated members of faculty have always stood shoulder with me and have carried out their duties with a level of commitment in rendering quality education to undergraduate and postgraduate students, We are committed to give our students an outcome based education through outcome based teaching and learning process which provides them an environment to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they advance through the programme. In addition to classroom teaching, the students are guided and motivated to implement practically the principles learnt in classrooms in the clinical which help students gain confidence and become skilled Nursing professionals. OVERVIEW
Welcome to the department of Mental health at C.S.I Jeyaraj Annapackiam College of Nursing, The Department of Mental Health Nursing provides excellent service in psychiatric Nursing education, research and practice which include comprehensive and holistic nursing care services with an understanding of the modern approach to mental health, identification prevention and nursing management of common mental health problems with special emphasis on therapeutic interventions for individuals, family in the hospital as well as in the community
The department is having well qualified faculty involved in teaching the undergraduate and post graduate students, guiding them in patient care and research activities and conducting various extension programmes
The department regularly organizes the expert/guest lectures to cover content beyond curriculum and organizes the activities for student personality and professional development
The department produced consistently good academic results and recorded good placement in reputed hospitals and colleges of India and abroad
The student achievements are magnificent in terms of regularly winning prizes in competitions organised by other institutions under department of mental health
The department conducts awareness programmes on mental health related topics in schools and various urban –rural areas of Madurai
The department strives to provide a conducive environment for the students to develop analytical and practical skills and apply them to real world problems and motivates the PG students to conduct research in preventive promotive and rehabilitative aspects of psychiatric clients and present problems faced by vulnerable groups
Postgraduate program in nursing is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as nurse specialist, consultants, educators, Administrators in a wide variety of professional setting.
AIM
To develop adequate skill in care of patients with mental illness
OBJECTIVES
- To appreciate the trends and issues in the field of psychiatry and psychiatric nursing
- To explain the dynamics of personality development and human behavior
- To describe the concepts of psychobiology in mental disorders and its implication for psychiatry nursing
- To demonstrate therapeutic communication skills
- To apply nursing process approach in caring for patients with psychotic and neurotic disorders
- To describe the psychopharmacological agents, their effects and nurses role
- To recognize the role of psychiatric nurse and recognize as a member of the psychiatric and mental health zone.

- Organization of Psychosocial drama at psychiatric institution & community settlement

- Our mental health department have organized world mental health day program with the theme- “focused on suicide prevention” on October 10TH 2019 in our campus to school students.
- Our mental health department and student’s organized awareness programme regarding “child abuse” to school students on October 10th 2019
- Our department student’s participation in Management of children with childhood disorder at preethi childhood clinic, west veli street
- Our student’s participation in quiz competition on September 28, 2019 organized by Athma hospital.
- Our faculty, III yr. BSC (N)& PG Students attended professional development program at chellamuthu trust &research foundation, Madurai
